About the course

Aim of CAMH-C

This Certificate Program offers participants the opportunity to increase their diagnostic and treatment skills particular to the needs of children and adolescents. Designed for the busy practitioner in a variety of settings, this interactive online course will focus on the developmental process, understanding psychiatric disorders and associated behaviors, risk factors and triggers, the identification of behaviors and symptoms, family relationships, and intervention and prevention strategies. Certificates of completion will be awarded, when all requirements have been met.

Outcomes of this programme

  • Demonstrate understanding of developmental norms and processes of growth and change in children and adolescents and distinguish behaviors that are part of normal development from those that are different from normal development.
  • Become familiar with the principles and practice of assessment, diagnosis and treatment, including therapeutic modalities, psychotropic medication and environmental manipulations of patients of all ages and their families presenting to child psychiatric services.
  • Understand the common mental health problems that children and young people face and the impact they can cause.
  • Know the common signs of mental health problems in children.
  • Understand the factors that are likely to increase the risk of a child developing a mental health problem.
  • Understand the relationship between physical, cognitive, emotional, social and developmental factors that contribute to emotional behavioural difficulties or more serious mental illness.
  • Course Duration : 06 Months

This Online course is of 12 credit hours which have been divided into 12 Online Synchronous session (mostly case-based discussions) of 2 hours every alternate week, interactive self-paced online course components and assessments including 2 Quiz and e-Portfolio comprising of sessions reflections. A multimedia rich online component will be an integral part of the course. Both synchronous and asynchronous learning tools are utilized to teach, collaborate and support participants during the whole course. Active participation in online environment is expected from all the participants to enhance and consolidate their learning. Expected duration of work is minimum 3-4 hours / week.

  • Module 1: Understanding children and young people Mental Health.
  • Module 2: Neuro-developmental Disorders.
  • Module 3: Emotional & Mood Disorders.
  • Module 4: Somatic symptoms, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Tic disorder & Behaviour Problems.
  • Module 5: Miscellaneous Disorders.
  • Module 6: Child Mental health Treatments and Emergencies.

The course is directed by Professor Nazish Imran, Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, Chairperson Department of Child & Family Psychiatry, King Edward Medical University (KEMU), and Clinical Director of Bloomcare and Connections Child Psychiatric Services. She brings extensive academic, clinical, and leadership experience in child and adolescent mental health across diverse healthcare settings.

The faculty comprises experts from the USA, UK, Qatar, UAE and Pakistan, offering participants valuable exposure to international perspectives, varied service models, and best practices across different clinical and cultural contexts. Teaching will be delivered through a blended format, with selected faculty providing recorded lectures, while others will join participants live via interactive Zoom sessions, allowing real-time discussion and engagement alongside flexible, self-paced learning.
