Health science journals are an important element in health systems. They provide a forum for the dissemination of research findings and evidence to improve both patient care and health systems in general. This course is particularly targeted at editors, editorial board members, and reviewers working in countries that are seeking to develop their capacities to promote, conduct and disseminate research and to inform policy and practice.

  • Describe international guidelines for different type of scientific manuscript writing.
  • Define and describe policies of Journal related to authors, reviewers and publishers.
  • Develop Editorial Board Policies for their Journal.
  • Describe different peer review models with their advantages and limitations.
  • Develop a robust and effective peer review policy as well as peer review checklist for their own Journal.
  • Describe different publication ethics issues and able to find solution from international resources.
  • Demonstrate trends, issues, and challenges in publication ethics at the global, national, and local levels.
  • Develop effective Journal site using online journal management software.
  • Define quality standards and apply Journal for different indexing bodies.
  • Develop long-term sustainability policy for their own Journal.
  • Identify his/her professional development needs to professionalize his/her practice as an editor, reviewer and lifelong learner.
  • Course Duration : 6 months

This course is of 12 credit hours, with monthly two zoom synchronous session (alternate Saturday/month from 3-4.30pm PST). A multimedia-rich online) component on Learning Management System is an integral part of the course which comprises of interactive learning contents, animated videos, important links, resources as well as collaborative discussion forums. Assessment included 2 assignments, 3 Quiz and an e-Portfolio comprising of reflective writings. 
Average weekly minimum 6-8 hours time commitment required from the course participants.
